Took my last dose of antibiotics yesterday! 14 days, done and done.
Overall wasn’t too terrible. Didn’t feel great most of the time, but at least didn’t have any, ahem, “violent” episodes or allergic reactions. Took a probiotic and tried to eat yogurt between doses, per the recommendation of my acupuncturist (helps restore the “good” bacteria being killed off), so maybe that helped?
I finally put my finger on how I felt most of the time: Hungover. Nauseated, lethargic, woozy, achy, kind of stupid like was still drunk from the night before. It’s telling that I finally figured this out while... sitting in the drive-thru at Taco Bell. With the bag from McDonalds sitting on the floor of my car from the day before. I wish I was joking. Grease, baby, grease! I definitely had to eat frequently – an empty stomach was not good.
I fulfilled all my holiday obligations (i.e. things that required me to leave the house), but took advantage of all the couch time I could get. Hey, it was cold and crappy in Chicago, might as well stay curled up under a blankie, unshowered, still in pajamas, when you get the chance, right?
I wasn’t too motivated, but did manage to do a major purge of my closet, file cabinets, and many many storage boxes. I’m feeling unusually apathetic and unsentimental these days, which may not be the healthiest mindset but sure is good for saying adios to yer crap. I definitely feel lighter.
In other news, even though not trying this cycle, I decided to use my fertility monitor to have a clue when to expect my period and just see what my body was up to, especially since had such a wacky last cycle. And Hello! One-eyed monster made a very early appearance at CD12 (vs. CD19 last month). So hopefully back to my ~28 day cycle.
Our next steps are to wait until I get my period, then call to get follow-up biopsy around CD8-10. I’m not clear whether we’ll be able to try that cycle, was just too much happening at our appt. But of course my early ovulation has me worried that I wouldn’t get my biopsy results in time, and poof, there goes another month. I think I’m going to call Dr. B’s nurse tomorrow - the uncertainty is starting to make me a little neurotic so better nip it in the bud.
I think the break has been good for me. Is surprisingly a relief to not be in a 2ww right now, analyzing every pinch and twinge, paranoid that everything I do or eat or breathe will screw me. I’m doing a yoga/cleanse this month at my holistic fertility center, so hope to be in fighting shape, both mentally and physically, and back in the game very very soon.
I am on the sidelines cheering you on. Very thrilled that you are off the antibiotics. Cruel stuff. I am also glad the fert monitor is giving hope for a solid (and very normal) cycle. Fingers are crossed for that next biopsy (say hello to those tulips, I counted them!).
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that if I lived in Chicago, I would be ripe from being unshowered and couch sitting. That sounds like a perfectly lovely way to get some much needed downtime.
God I love purging. I am so unsentimental. I just like to clear my house of crap.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you survived those serious antibiotics. For future reference, if you can get a really high quality probiotic pill, it'll have about 80-100 times the helpful bacteria of yogurt. When I asked my naturopath why she was making me quit dairy (yogurt) and take a probiotic, she said, "Yogurt has 50-100 million bacteria per cup. The probiotic I'm putting you on has 8-10 billion." Oh, ok. that's why. I've also alternated (nothing is TMI in IF-ville, right?) taking them orally with taking them, uh, vaginally, to make sure I don't get a YI. Which gets really complicated when you're also having to alternate them with the antibiotics....god I am such a rambling commenter lately. I'm glad you're done with them and hope that infection is wiped the crap out.
Seeeeeee ya, antibiotics! Sounds like they were pretty brutal, but you kicked ass and survived them. GO YOU!
ReplyDeleteI'm also very excited about your normal ovulation day!!!!! I know it was majorly wigging you out how haywire your cycle had gone. I feel like this is a good sign. And totally call Dr. B if you have any questions/uncertainties. That's what she's there for. AND it will give you some peace of mind.
xo my friend.
The people at good will know my car well. My husband actually insists that he review anything I take to Goodwill because I am *so* unsentimental and getting rid of crap all the time. I sometimes sneak in visits without telling him. What can I say? When you live in a small house, you can't have extra crap around.
ReplyDeleteThis fertility monitor sounds interesting. Man, I wish I ovulated early...such short cycles are beautiful.
Hope you are feeling better now that you aren't on the antibiotic.
Wow, it sounds like you really survived a battle with those meds. Your post, despite everything you are currently going through, is really upbeat and I am hopeful this is going to be the start of a great year for you!
ReplyDeleteYou made it through! Way to go, champ.
ReplyDeleteI likes the sounds of a holistic infertility t/x center. And I likes the sounds of your + attitude. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're done with the drugs! The way you felt on them sounds awful - a two week hangover =/= fun.
ReplyDeleteHoping the biopsy results will give you the all clear and you can get moving with a new cycle v soon.
Phew to be done with the drugs! On to bigger and better things! Fingers crossed for the biopsy!
ReplyDeleteYay for being done with the drugs!! I often feel the same way about off months: no two week wait is sometimes a blessing in disguise--at least until the last few days when I just want to get on with it already! :)
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog after a recommendation from a friend of yours who says we have similar histories. I will watch your journey with interest and wish you all the luck in the world for 2011!x
ReplyDeleteGreat for being done with the drugs! I know it must be a relief to not be in a 2ww. It is nice to realize there are other things to think about other than mucus, ovulation, symptoms, and all this mess that goes with it. Enjoy your time off and I hope you come back rearing and ready to go :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard anything from you in a while...hope things are well and thinking about you!
ReplyDeleteAlso checking in. Thinking of you!
