More "not good but we still don't know for sure" news

Had my ultrasound this morning. Gestational sac, measuring small. Barely there yolk sac, only visible after MUCH digging around and searching.

Dr. B. was present at the ultrasound and even "took the wheel" for a while. And then I met with her in her office afterwards, and she spent time going through what we saw and what it means. I can't recall the numbers, but both her and the ultrasound tech took measurements of the sac, and there are guidelines about the mean diameter and what should be seen when. Basically was on the fringe of viability, but not looking good.

So we scheduled another ultrasound for Monday afternoon (for which Dr. B earned some points by pulling strings to get me in).

I also had blood drawn, and she called me herself with the results early this afternoon:
Beta #4 = 6231.

Which was actually higher than I expected, but Dr. B. was discouraged and wanted it to be higher. She still thought my situation was inconclusive, but began discussing options for having a procedure, which she never explicitly said D&C but I can only assume is what she meant. She offered that if I came for an ultrasound Wednesday instead, that we could do an office procedure the same day.

The thought of going through a D&C in the same fashion as the hysteroscopy - ie barely medicated - sounds like cruel and unusual punishment to me right now, and I basically said as much. And she said that she could schedule something with a colleague (and anesthesia) instead for later in the week.

Ugh ugh ugh. Has been a really rough day, I basically cried all morning, but I'm actually doing okay now.

My husband had to go out of town and couldn't go with me, which had me in tears all day Monday at the thought of not having him. But my awesome friend K, who is a fellow IF/RPL soldier, agreed to take me. Not only did she endure the 3-hr ordeal with me this morning including driving, but we've been talking by phone all day and has been really helpful in processing it all and moving to a better place already.

There's so much more to share about today and the past week, but my brain is just exhausted right now. I'm terribly sad and disappointed, but I'm dealing. And I'm actually seeing a bright side in this horrible situation: we were able to get pregnant on our own again, and the pregnancy progressed far enough that I've got the option for a D&C and testing and possible explanation.

I'm going to be okay, and live to fight another day.

  2. Oh, I'm sure that was a super fun meeting with LaWanda, with all that digging. I'm so sorry this is so shitty right now :-(

I've never had a D&C, but yeah. Doing it semi-lucid sounds horrendous. I have done misoprostol twice now - I'm not sure if you've tried it yet, but if you want some feedback on that option, hit me up and I'll spill.

  3. Oh, Mrs. B. I so hope your little bean surprises everyone and looks thriving and healthy at your next appointment.

Having a d&c while even semi-conscious is a dreadful idea. I was fully out for mine. I really don't think you need to be aware of what they are doing inside you while it's going on. It's emotionally painful enough without that added bullet.

I'm so sorry you are alone and sad right now. I wish I could give you a big hug.

  4. I am going to use all my birthday and Easter wishes to hope and pray that that "fringe" of hope surprises us with happy news. I wish I had more to say - words of encouragements, endless optimism, etc. but that is all for right now: you are on my mind and I am hoping and praying like crazy that there is wonderful news next week.

  6. Mrs. B. - First and most importantly, I want to tell you that I'm hoping & praying for the best and that you get happy news! I'm absolutely not trying to be negative with what follows.

That said - I've had both a D&C (under an., mc#1) and an MVA (non-medicated, mc#2). The MVA was really hard for me, mentally & physically (while it was happening, no pain after.) I think my doctor pushed for it knowing it would be faster and perhaps thinking it would be easier on me - and maybe because it was earlier than mc#1. I know there can be very practical benefits to having an office procedure without surgery, but I don't know if I could do it again.

  7. I was told that my pregnancy was on the fringes and probably not going to be viable. We got as far as discussing D&C options. But a couple weeks later we found a heartbeat. And 7-8 months after that I delivered a big healthy boy! Don't lose hope yet.

  8. I'm so sorry. I've been thinking about you a lot this past week and was really hoping for good news. Is misoprostol not an option? The tissue collecting is a little traumatizing, I'll admit, but having never had a D&C I still think I prefer miso+pain pills. Hoping for a miracle for you. Hang in there.

  11. Shit. Okay. I'm going to email you my opinion on the other side of this. i want very much to be there to tell you in person that this is going to be okay, because it is. I want very much for you to be one of the people that pull through. I'm going to hold that flickering candle of hope for you until our Dr. B makes the call on Monday.

  13. Don't give up hope, there is always a chance that everything is okay and maybe you ovulated a little later than you think and that is why the gest sac is measuring small, right? I am thinking of you and praying for this sweet baby. I am praying you are out of this "limbo" situation very soon. THere is nothing worse than not knowing for sure, and having to go back and forth to doctor appointments to check.

  14. I wanted to thank you for your well wishes today and tell you how sorry I am for your struggles. I know that in time you will have the joy you deserve, but of course that doesn't help right now when the path to happiness looks so dark and full of pain. I will continue to stop by and see how you are and wish all good things for you. Never give up, your child will thank you for your perseverance and determination. I know you will be a mommy one day xx

  15. I'm so sorry you're having to endure such unknowns through all this. Sometimes it's better to just know one way or the other so you can move on. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow when you go for a follow-up ultrasound. Try and stay strong! Many hugs to you:)

  16. Waiting f'ing sucks. That about sums it up. I'm so sorry that this can't be the perfect beta rising and beautiful indicators that you deserve after going through all this. Hoping for the best for you.
